Latest Motor Finance Claims Update
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has introduced a compensation scheme for customers who may have been affected by certain motor finance commission arrangements.
If you have already made a claim with Charterhouse Claims, there is nothing you need to do. We will continue to manage your claim and keep you updated if anything changes or if we need any further information from you.
Some parts of the compensation scheme are currently being challenged through the courts, which means some claims may take longer to resolve. We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue progressing your claim wherever possible.
For the latest information, please visit the FCA’s official Motor Finance Complaints page.
Payment & Fees
Charterhouse Claims operates on a “No Win, No Fee” basis. This means that you pay nothing unless your claim is successful, a fee between 18 – 36% (including VAT) applies on successful claims (fee dependant on level of redress secured), and a cancellation fee may apply outside the 14-day cooling-off period.
Below is an illustration of our fees. This illustration should not be taken as an estimate of the amount likely to be recovered as redress if you have a successful claim. The figures below are for illustration purposes only and the amount you pay may be more or less than the amount shown:
| Band | Redress Awarded (£) | What we will charge you (including VAT) (%) | Max Total Fee Payable |
| 1 | £1 -£1499 | 36% | £504 |
| 2 | £1,500 -£9,999 | 33.6% | £3,000 |
| 3 | £10,000 -£24,999 | 30% | £6,000 |
| 4 | £25,000 -£49,999 | 24% | £9,000 |
| 5 | £50,000+ | 18% | £12,000 |
Important Notice: If the compensation recovered by Charterhouse Claims is applied by the respondent toward any outstanding arrears, the client remains responsible for settling the applicable fee from their own funds. We have provided a number of options for you to settle your invoice here.
You do not need to use a claims management company to make a claim; you can do this yourself for free by contacting the car dealership or finance provider and if that is not successful you can complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) or where appropriate through the statutory compensation scheme.
Answers to our most common questions
The time it takes to resolve a claim depends on the type of claim, the lender involved and the circumstances of your case.
For most financial complaints, a lender will normally have up to 8 weeks to provide its response. If the complaint is not resolved, it may be possible to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service, which can add further time to the process.
Motor finance commission claims are currently affected by the FCA’s compensation scheme and ongoing legal proceedings, so these claims may take longer. We will continue to manage your claim and keep you updated when there is any progress.

Once a client enters a “No Win No Fee” with Charterhouse Claims pursuant to the Terms & Conditions, this means that we only charge a fee if we are successful in obtaining an offer of compensation unless you choose to cancel your agreement with us before then.

It is not uncommon for a Lender to reject your claim. If your claim is rejected and we believe you still have a strong case for compensation we can take your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
Yes. You do not need to use a claims management company to make your complaint to your lender. If your complaint is not successful you can refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service yourself for free. However many people choose to use a claims management company because they don’t want the hassle of making a claim themselves.
